Type: Permanent

Location: Telford / Newport, with the requirement to travel elsewhere in the UK as required.

As a Data Centre Engineer at Digital Space, you will be joining a converged managed service provider that delivers world-class connectivity, workplace, and cloud technology to over ten thousand customers. You will be the face of Digital Space to facilities management partners to enable Data Centre functionality and optimisation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide hands and eyes services to all Digital Space departments and external customers.
  • Provide cabling support including crimping, patching, labelling, running, terminating, and testing.
  • Accepting escalations from internal teams, troubleshooting, hardware repair, installation of spares or components as required, fault escalation, perform routine maintenance, network, and server testing to maintain its integrity.
  • Providing internal and external customers with timely updates on progress of Service Now tickets.
  • Make regular physical operational and security checks of the data centre and facilities.
  • Help customers both internal and external with the installation of equipment and hands-on troubleshooting.
  • Documentation of service configuration and hardware/software solutions according to the service descriptions including entry of key data into operational support systems to reflect status and progress of all solutions.
  • Testing of customer installations to ensure services delivered match or exceed customer expectations.
  • Manage and maintain data centre security by allowing only authorised personnel access to the data centre facilities, inspection of assets to ensure security has not been compromised.
  • Assist with maintenance and management of the data centre’s & data centre facilities by liaising with contractors. Inducting arranging engineers to site, ensuring all scheduled work is completed & any issues escalated as appropriate.
  • Update and maintain Digital Space records following all changes to equipment or assets.

Experience

  • Experience working with ticketing systems.
  • Experience of CAT6 and fibre cabling desirable
  • Perform cabling and patching duties.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Power cycling equipment, replacing failed hardware components, re-seating network cards and testing cabling.
  • Understanding of Microsoft operating systems and office applications
  • CDCTP desirable, not essential.
  • ITIL Foundation.
  • Working knowledge of PC & Server hardware.
  • Basic knowledge LAN, WAN, VLAN
  • Structured cabling and racking standards
