Role Purpose

We are looking for a technically minded person who can take responsibility for the IBM i (iSeries AS/400) Infrastructure, able to handle faults, incidents and tickets and perform approved changes across our IBM i customer base.  An essential part of this role is to provide excellence in systems support and management to our customers.  

As an IBM i Operator, you'll have the opportunity to:

  • Play a key role within the team, collaborating closely with colleagues, customers, and vendors to consistently deliver and promote service excellence
  • Ensure that customer incidents, changes and request tickets are completed professionally and managed in a consistent manner 
  • Ensure processes are being followed and documentation and operational procedures are current and up to date 
  • Perform troubleshooting for complex system issues and escalate IBM i support requests to the on call team where required 
  • Own and manage alerts using the Digital Space enterprise monitoring console, along with Backup and Restore requests
  • Work closely with other teams to ensure customer satisfaction 

 Experience, Knowledge and Skills

  • Experience in a technical role with a primary focus on IBM i within a managed services or service provider environment 
  • Knowledge in IBM i OS, BRMS, Work Management and Performance Management 
  • Good working knowledge of MIMIX and iTERA
  • Ability to perform operating system upgrades and apply patches and fixes (PTFs) efficiently
  • Understanding of CL, SQL and Automation products (AOS preferred but others acceptable); working knowledge of HMC 
  • Experience in IBM hardware platforms including Power5 through to Power9 
  • Proficient in the use of MS Office suite of products and ServiceNow for documentation and ticketing
  • Excellent time management, prioritisation, and self-motivation skills; able to manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Demonstrates genuine enthusiasm for technology and maintains up-to-date knowledge of new products and solutions.
  • A valid Full UK driving license is required for this role
